Channel One Rallies Late in Paramount Victory vs. Kennel Club
10/22/2008

In a preview of next week's playoffs, Channel One and the Bulldog Kennel Club unleashed an epic battle. Softballs went flying, bodies went diving, words were exchanged but in the end, Channel One was the team left standing with their right arms in the air. Rad Hruska pitched a gem backed up by a superb defense. Craig Massey was a madman in the field, determined to field anything on the left side of the field. Nick Bermudez, playing the hot corner, took smash after smash and turned them into outs. Steve Clites played a smooth 1st. The outfield played a clean game or should I say, kept the ball clean as they caught anything and everything.

Trailing 4-2 in the 5th inning, with two outs, Rafael Salcido smashed a hot shot through the box which would bring up left-centerfielder, Payton Birdsell. In a called shot by teammate Craig Massey, Payton blasted a bomb on a 3-1 pitch to tie the game at 4's and give Channel One a much needed shot in the arm. The Kennel Club and Channel One exchanged scoreless half innings before Kennel Club scratched for a run to put them up 5-4 heading into the top half of the final inning. Rad Hruska and Eric Pruett came through with some clutch hits to put runners on for Chad Swanson. Chad took a mighty hack and caught the left fielder creepin' in and boomed the ball over his head for a double to take the lead! Channel One then added 3 more runs to take a 9-5 lead heading into the final inning. All the Kennel Club could muster was one run and with that, Channel One clinched 2nd place and the home field advantage next week.

Batting leaders included the aforementioned Chad Swanson and Payton Birdsell, both going 3-4 with many other team members chiming in with 2 hits each...

Stay tuned next week, as the playoffs begin and it promises to be a good ride!

Late Start Puts Channel 1 in Loss Column
3/21/2008

Channel One's game started at 11 but unfortunately, the bats didn't get started until 11:40. The Brew Crew bats did show up and they jumped out to a big lead of 18-2. When the bats did get going for Channel One, they closed the margin for a final of 21-13. Some notable efforts include Steve Goodwin going 3 for 4 with a double and 4 rbi's. Lauren Arfman contributed as well by going 2 for 3 with 3 rbi's and a double. Nick Bermudez also made his season debut with two hits, both doubles. Lloyd Arfman made a cameo appearance and booted out a double.

Looks like Channel One has it's work cut out for them this season with the emergence of the Brew Crew. The road to repeating will be no easy feat.

Just Another Funday Sunday
3/13/2008

In Channel 1's first game of the season, the Men in Green didn’t do anything different from the previous season’s championship run. Pitching, defense, patience, and timely hitting led to another solid victory. The Mean Green Machine had an astounding THIRTEEN walks (3 each by Chad Swanson and Rafael Salcido), and some timely hitting by Lauren Arfman (4 rbi’s) and Steve Goodwin (3rbi’s) which paved the way to a 17-7 victory over SD Softball Fun Black. Lauren went 4 innings, giving up 5 runs and letting his defense do majority of the work. Michael Hoffman, er, Henson came in to save the game.

The game was close initially with Channel 1 only leading 4-3 after two, but blew it open with 5 runs in the 3rd and closed it out with 6 runs in the 5th and final inning. While there was no real big inning, the consistency of the lineup led to 2 or more runs in each inning. The overall effort was a nice representation for the 1st game of the season and hopefully, a sign of things to come.
