Six? Six is good... I like six...
9/14/2010

Sandbar rolls to their 6th straight victory winning 21-12. The win elevated Sandbar into 1st place all by themselves after the big win over the now 2nd place Kennel Club. The Sandbar, in what is seeming to become par for the course, rallied back from a big deficit to win handily. Down 10-3 heading into the bottom of the 3rd, Sandbar came roaring back with 12 runs to take control of the game. Lots of offensive stars in this one. Big flies came from Scotty two times, Mike Henson and Mike S. Scotty ended up with 6 rbi's as well. Craig went 4-4 with a career high 5 rbi's, taking advantage of Manny doubles. Mke H also went 4-4 as well. Defensive plays were made by several people but the best defensive play that this reporter saw was in the 2nd inning when a lefty from Kennel Club rifled a shot between 1st and 2nd. Lauren Arfman, also known as Lolo, ranged FAR to his right to backhand the hot grounder, then wheeled around and threw a laser...what?... a laser to a Mike Henson covering the bag. Craig later quipped, "That was the best throw I ever saw...' ( This quote may have been made out of context) .... Next week... Channel 1 @ 11

Sandbar walks off with 5th straight win...
9/08/2010

Sandbar took down the defending champion Bulldogs with a rousing 15-14 win. Sandbar entered the 2nd inning, trailing 3-0 and pounced on the Bulldogs pitcher by putting up 10 runs! They spun the wheel with 8 hits in the inning, highlighted by a grand slam by Mike Henson. The Bulldogs would not go down without a fight and managed to tie the game in the top of the 7th. After getting one out, Jeff Farmer put one in the gap ( that was between the right centerfielder's glove and ground) and got to third with a stand up triple. The Bulldogs walked the next two batters to load the bases for Big Mike S.... Mistake! Big Mike came thru with a laser to deep right that put Sandbar into a 1st place tie with the Kennel Club! This Sunday, Sandbar faces that same Kennel Club in a battle for 1st place @ 11 o clock. C U THERE!

Season 4 underway and then some...
8/24/2010

Welcome to Season 4. Team Sandbar got off to a slow start this season, going 0-2 before going on their current win streak of 4, to put them in 2nd place with a record of 4-2. Below, you will find some recaps of the games:
Game 1 vs Channel 1
The 8 AM doldrums strike as Sandbar is groggy and only score 9 over 7 innings, losing 12-9. Mike Henson was the hitting star with 2 homeruns and 5 rbi's. Any chance of a 3rd homerun was taken away, when the opposing pitcher, "Chicken" Goodwin chose to unintentionally intentionally walk Mike H. Also, Scotty came through with 3 hits and Peyton chipped in 3 rbi's.
Game 2 vs. Bulldog Kennel Club
Sandbar came up short again, losing by 2 runs in a close contest with the Kennel Club. After starting out with 4 runs in the 1st, Sandbar only scored 1 run until the 5th inning when they broke through with 5 to get within 1 run. However, Kennel Club added 2 more runs and Sandbar could only muster up 1 run over the last 2 innings to fall short. Hitting stars included Scotty Lee, who had 2 homeruns and 4 rbi's, Henson with 2 hits, including a HR.
Game 3 vs Channel 1
Sandbar is off the schnide, avenging their 1st loss of the season with a win over Channel 1. Sandbar was chasing most of the game until a 7 run 5th inning put them over the top. Mike S hit a go ahead Grand Slam to put Sandbar ahead to stay. Later, in the same inning, improbably, Patterson and Lolo hit back to back inside the park homeruns. Hitting star was Mike Sylwestrzak going 3 for 3 with the aforementioned grand slam.
Game 4 versus Kennel Club.
Sandbar comes through with a 10 run 7th inning to snatch away the victory from Kennel Club. Chasing 4 in the Top of the 7th, Sandbar put the 10 spot up with 12 hits in the inning. The hitting stars included Rafael Salcido with 4 hits, Joey B with 4 hits, Mike S with 3 hits and 4 rbi's and Jeff Farmer with 3 hits as well.
Game 5 vs. Brew Crew
In the 2nd game of the double header, Sandbar picked up right where it left off with a blazing 1st inning where they scored 9 runs to put this game to bed early. Mike S hit a 3 run homerun in the 1st to put Sandbar up 4-0. Plenty of hitting stars in this game including Craig Massey, who went 4-4 and just a homerun short of the cycle. Patterson had 3 hits and 3 rbi's.
Game 6 Vs. Red Birds.
Sandbar continued their winning ways and somehow, managed to beat their 8AM nemesis, the wily, crafty Willy, 10-3. Manny Hernandez was the early bird as he started the game off with a homerun to deep center. Later, in the 3rd inning, he hit another long drive to center for his 2nd homerun of the game. Manny was the hitting star of the game as well as Ron S who went 3-3.
Next week's game is versus the defending champions, the Bulldogs at 11. See you there.

Sandbar smacks Channel 1 in the mouth with a shorthanded 23-7 victory.
10/06/2009

Sandbar came into the game with only 9 players but left with victory number 9 in recording their 7th straight victory. In a game that saw Rafael Salcido make his season debut at 2nd, Sandbar knew they would have to hit and hit they did. 23 runs in only 4 innings versus a hot Channel 1 team that had come into the game winners of 5 straight. Sandbar scored 5 in the 1st, 5 in the second, 8 in the third and 5 more for good measure in the 4th inning. Payton Birdsell went 3 for 3 with a double and 2 homeruns to left. Peyton Birdsell now LEADS the team in hitting, a remarkable turnaround from last season. Who would have thunk it? Stop the presses! Mike Henson pitched a phenomenal game and also contributed 4 hits and 4 rbi’s. Rafael also added 3 hits in his return from his hiatus. Sandbar plays next week versus the winless Peecocks @ 11.

Sandbar avenges loss to Redbirds, wins 16-7
10/06/2009

Sandbar powered their way to victory versus the Red Birds, with Scotty Lee blasting 3 homeruns and Peyton Birdsell chipped in with one. Due to these selfish bastards, Lauren Arfman’s would have been 1st homerun was reduced to a foul. Cue the boo birds now. Scotty now leads the team in homeruns with 11 round trippers. Scotty also had 7 rbi’s . Mike Henson and Payton Birdsell both added 3 hits to the hit parade. Sandbar next opponent is versus Channel 1, whom they have lost to 3 straight games, including earlier this season.

Sandbar keeps rollin, 16-3 vs Brew Crew...
9/23/2009

Sandbar jumped out to a 8-0 lead after the 1st two innings and never let up, pounding the Brew Crew. 16-3. This was Sandbar's 5th win in a row and keeps them in the top spot at 7-2. Henson pitched a gem only giving up 3 runs to a pretty good offense. He also chipped in 3 hits on the day. Elias Corona also had a nice day with the stick, going 4-4 with 3 rbi's. Payton Birdsell also had 3 hits, with 2 doubes and a rbi. Sandbar's defense was nearly flawless in the win, led by Michael Patterson stealing a homerun away from one of the Brew Crew. Sandbar looks to avenge one of it's losses this season next week when they take on Grand Slam Willie and the Red Birds at 10 o clock

Sandbar takes over 1st place, beats Res Dawgs, 19-12
9/15/2009

Sandbar begins the 2nd half of the season much like the way they started the season, beating up on the Res Dawgs. The Res Dawgs only two losses this season are to Sandbar by a cumalative score of 35-13. In a game that went back and forth for the 1st 4 innings, Sandbar took control with a 5 run 5th and putting the game out of reach with a 6 run 6th inning. Some of the stars of the game were Jeff Farmer who had 4 hits and 5 rbi's. Mac Mccoy had a 3 run blast in the 2nd inning with high drive to the right side. He also added a triple and finished with 4 rbi's. Craig Massey went 4-4, 2 rbi's and some handy defense at shortstop. Mike Henson had 3 hits and was also aces on the hill holding a good hitting team to 12 runs but just 7 until the Res Dawgs scored 5 throw away runs. Sandbar improves to 6-2 on the season and will face the always game Brew Crew.

Sandbar leaves Kennel Club on field, walk off with 13-12 win...
9/01/2009

On a day when temperatures reached 100 degrees, the only thing hotter than than the sun was Scotty. Scotty hit 3 homeruns in his 1st 3 at bats. In his last at bat, Kennel Club had to pick their poison. Pitch to Scotty and watch him hit his 4th HR on the day or pitch to last season's Sandbar triple crown winner in Elias. THey chose to pitch to Elias and he made them pay with a bases loaded no out single to right center to win the game for Sandbar, 13-12. Scotty now has 8 homeruns in only 7 games. This is the 2nd time a Sandbar player has hit 3 homeruns in a game this season. Elias hit 3 homeruns back on 8/18. There were several sweet defensive plays for Sandbar on this scorching day. One by Patterson to rob a Kennel Clubber of a homerun. 2 by Mac, one a leaping line drive that looked like he was ready to catch it for an alley oop and a second one that may...may have had a bit of luck to it on a sweet little backhand that somehow stayed in the glove. Sometimes, it's best to be lucky and good. Elias set the tone for the day with a nice glove on what looked to be a sure double only to glove, spin and toss to special guest pitcher Joey. Joey and Ryan also turned a nice double play on a shot back up the box with Joey gloving, flipping to Ryan who fricken lasered it to Elias at one for the twin killer. Sandbar finshed the 1st half of the season with a 5-2 record. On September 13th, Sandbar will take on Resevoir Dawgs, who currently are in 1st with a 6-1 record. That game is at 10:00

Sandbar makes it 2 in a row with win over Bulldogs.
8/27/2009

Sandbar wasted no time staking themselves to a big lead. After the Bulldogs mustered up 2 runs in the top of the 1st, Sandbar scored 6 in their half of the 1st and another 7 in the 2nd inning to take a big 13-2 lead. The bulldogs threatened to make it a game in the 5th inning with 6 runs but Sandbar got back to work and scored 7 to put the game away, winning 21-8. Sandbar now sits with a 4-2 record. Scotty continued his bomb attack by hitting another HR to lead the team with 5 homeruns. Jeff Farmer got to flex his muscles as he went deep with a 3 run fly in the 5th inning. Other notables included Craig with 3 hits, Rafael 3 hits, Lolo 3 hits, Payton 3 hits and 4 rbi's. Great game fellas. This week's game figures to be a good one versus the Bulldog Kennel Club, who is also 4-2...

Bombs away! Scotty and Elias combine for 5 homeruns and 10 rbi's!
8/18/2009

Sandbar climbed over the .500 mark for the season with a 22-10 victory over the game Peecocks. In a game of one upmanship, Elias and Scotty took turns swatting homeruns like flies. Elias ended up on the day a sterling 4-4 with 3 homeruns and 8 rbi's. Not much was left on the basepaths for Scotty to knock in, so he knocked himself in with two big solo shots. Craig And Mac also went 4-4. Rafael made his season debut at the top spot and reached base 4 times out of 5 at bats. The win improves Sandbar's record to 3-2 on the season. Up next on the season is the Burlingame Bulldogs. Bulldogs are 4-1 on the season and are ahead of Sandbar on the season. Also... in all seriousness... Does anyone know the whereabouts of Michael Patterson? Local casinos have been searched and he has not been found. American Idol tryouts have been searched upon as well with no such luck. If found, please contact his mom. She misses him.

Sandbar gets back to winning ways, wins 16-15 vs. Brew Crew
6/06/2009

Sandbar went back to good with a comeback victory versus Brew Crew. Sandbar trailed by a run heading into the bottom of the 7th. Rafael Salcido led of with a sharp double down the left field line. After a walk to Ryan, Craig Massey beat out a fielder's choice, which allowe dthe tying run to score. On the throw, Craig raced to 2nd. Jeff Farmer hit a hard grounder to 1st to advance Craig to third. All the pressure was on Mike Henson, and on a full count pitch, he slaps a single through for the game winner. Elias Corona led the way with 2 homeruns and 7 rbi's. Jeff Farmer also hit a homerun as did Mac Mccoy with his 1st homerun of the season. This week's game is at 10 versus the Bulldog Kennel Club, who have been on a small winning streak as of late. If Sandbar wins, stick around for the next game between Channel 1 and Res Dawgs. If CHannel 1 upsets the Res Dawgs, Sandbar will be the Division winners and #1 seed heading into the playoffs...

Sandbar bangs out Yellow Fever, then turns the Channel for a double header sweep
5/14/2009

On a balmy Sunday morning, Sandbar had a double header and won both games by a considerable margin. The Yellow Fever stood little chance as the game was nearly over in the 1st inning, as Sandbar put up 10 runs, highlighted by a Payton Birdsell 2 run homerun. The game was put to bed in the 3rd inning when Sandbar put up 7 more. In the inning, Ryan Lanzara managed to turn a sure double into a triple and Lauren Arfman huffed and puffed his way to a 3 rbi triple. Jeff Farmer and Michael Patterson were perfect in the 1st game, with Farmer getting 5 hits and Patterson getting 4. Craig Massey also had 4 hits from the leadoff spot. Elias Corona, hitting in the 4 spot, had 4 hits as well. Sandbar won this game, 23-9
In the backend of the doubleheader, Sandbar took on nemesis Channel 1 in what was thought to be a close game but it never developed. Sandbar took control with 6 runs in the 1st inning, with Elias Corona smashing a mammoth 3 run shot that landed near the hiking trails. Payton Birdsell later had an inside the parker with a ball that struck high up on the lightpole in right and shot off like a pinball. By the time Channel 1 recovered, Payton had scored and waved Hi to his parents in the crowd. Also in the game, Ryan Lanzara finally showed he could hit a ball over the fence, alas though, it was ruled foul. When asked about the "foul" HR shot, Ryan replied, "Chicks dig the long ball ". When asked about his batting average this season, he replied something that rhymes with "Chuck Cough". A $1 to the reader who solves that riddle. Back to the game, Mike Henson pitched really well, not giving up a run until the 4th inning, by which time, Sandbar held a 15-0 lead. Sandbar won the game, 22-5 and improved to 10-1 on the season, still sitting pretty in 1st place.

Sandbar shows Bulldogs who is master! Win 22-9
5/07/2009

Sandbar stayed hot, winning their 7th game in a row. In a game that was only close for the first inning, Sandbar spun the wheel in the 2nd inning and scored 7 runs to blow the game wide open. Elias Corona had the big shot in the inning with a 3 run homerun. Elias also hit for his 2nd cycle in the season. That would make it the bi cycle, emphasis on the BI for Elias. Craig Massey also contributed with 4 hits plus a walk and also made a nice diving stop to his left to rob a Bulldog of a basehit. Rafael looked like he was on his way to a perfect game, til he looked at strike 3 hit the corner of the plate for stike 3. Can I help you? Nah... just lookin. Regardless of the K, Rafael had 3 hits, as did Lauren "Softball Jesus" Arfman. Scotty Lee blasted another homerun, his 2nd in as many games. Sandbar improved to 8-1 on the season and play a double header on Sunday vs. Yellow Fever and their bitter rivals, Channel 1. 9 for Yellow Fever, 10 for Channel 1. See you there.

Sandbar too strong for Bulldog Kennel Club to play with...
4/21/2009

After Kennel Club took a 10-4 lead in the bottom of the 3rd, Sandbar took their bench punch, responded with 6 of their own runs and took over from there with a 20-12 beating of the Bulldog Kennel Club. Sandbar, starting off slowly, could only muster 4 runs in 3 innings but pushed through the mini slump with 16 runs in the final 4 innings, whilst holding the Kennel Club to only 2 more runs the rest of the way. Sandbar improves to 6-1 and remains tied with Res Dawgs for 1st. Some of the hitting stars included a scorching Jeff Farmer, who went 3-4 and kept his hold on team batting average leader. It was overheard at the game that Farmer was so hot that his new nickname should be Flaming Farmer. Michael Henson went 2-3 with his team leading 4th homerun of the season. He tried twice to go deep earlier in the game when it was close but could not come through. Then, with the game safely out of reach, he finally found the power to hit a 2 run homerun. Way to go, ARod. Elias Corona had 4 hits as did Lauren Arfman and Scotty Lee. Next week's game is against Yellow Fever at 12 PM.

Sandbar stakes claim to 1st place with 22-5 trouncing of the Res Dawgs...
4/06/2009

In what many thought would be a close game, Sandbar changed it up and blew out the Reservoir Dawgs. The Dawgs came in with a perfect 5-0 record, including a one run win over Sandbar. Sandbar ensured no such thing would happen this time as they took control of this game with a 8 run 3rd inning. 2 innings later, they put the foot on the throat with a 7 run 5th inning. Hitting stars were aplenty, with Jeff Farmer going 4-4 with an HR, Michael Henson going 4-5 with a solo blast. Henson was perfect when he made contact with the ball. Craig Massey was 4-5 as well, scoring two more runs to add to his team leading total. Elias Corona had 3 hits including a triple as did Rafael Salcido. Rafael Salcido also showed some range when he went deep into the left center field gap to "snow cone " a drive that would have scored two. Better get well soon Patterson! Henson pitched a gem of a game only allowing 5 runs to the potent Dawg offense, allowing his defense to make play after play. Sandbar improves to 5-1 and into a 1st place tie with Res Dawgs. If season were to end today, Sandbar would be in 1st place due to run differential. No game this week due to Easter. Enjoy the week off. Also, if you run your mouse over the Links tab, you will get the schedule, standings and rules. Use this schedule as the OFFICIAL schedule. Thanks.

Sandbar shows up for softball game, football game breaks out, win by one!
4/01/2009

In a early morning game, Sandbar, making like the teams of the 20's, showed up tired, hung over, still a little drunk, and still showed up like Babe Ruth. pounding out 25 hits and 25 runs. The defense was as shaky as Payton after a night of drinking but still managed to hang on. The victory over Brew Crew improves the record for Sandbar to 4-1. There were a ton of good individual performances that lead to a great team offensive output. Everyone that played a full game came away with at least 3 hits. Special thanks to Larry and Mike S for coming in to help us out and help propel the team to victory. Up next, we play the dreaded 8 AM game again versus Reservoir Dawgs, who was the only team to beat Sandbar. I think a little payback is in order.

After rough and tumble start, Sandbar comes back to win laugher, 20-11
3/27/2009

After the first play of the game, Sandbar looked like it was in for a long day. But after getting knocked down, Sandbar got back up and came back to win. The leadoff batter for the SD Softball Redbirds sent a liner down the left field line. Scotty Lee scooted towards the ball when he suddenly thought he was on fire and did like every good boy and girl would do, and that is, he stopped, dropped and rolled. By the time Scotty got back on his feet, the batter had scored. Casualties of the Big Scotty Roll were two fences in Serra Mesa. Contractors in the area were not amused. After that debacle, Team Sandbar rebounded with 3 runs in the bottom half of the inning. All 3 runs came on a Mike Henson homerun to centerfield. Sandbar put it on cruise control from that moment, never looking back and winning 20-11. The top 3 of the lineup, Craig Massey ( 4-4, reaching base all 5 times), Jeff Farmer ( 5-5 with 4 doubles) and Mike Henson (4-5 with 6 rbi's) went a combined 14-15 with 12 runs scored and 13 rbi's. Sandbar improved to 3-1 on the season and faces the BrewCrew this Sunday @ 9 AM. See you there!

After losing close game to Reservoir Dawgs, Sandbar changes the Channel to split double header
3/18/2009

In what was deemed a tough doubleheader before theday started turned out to be absolutely true. Team Sandbar played last sason's champions in a see saw battle that landed them on the wrong side of the win loss column. Reservoir Dawgs, showing their championship resolve, gutted out a win in the end, 11-10. Most observers felt that what ever team was the home team would have won this game. Michael Patterson played would be hero with a clutch triple in the 7th to put Sandbar ahead by three. Unfortunately, Sandbar could not capitalize. Ron Saunar made his debut with the team and impressed with a perfect day at the plate with 2 hits and a walk, not to mention a couple of rbi's.
In the back end of the double header, Sandbar played a soon to be a fierce rival, Channel 1. Many of the Sandbar players played last season on Channel 1 and looked forward to playing them. Craig Massey, the one who looked most forward, started things right with a single. Lauren Arfman then boomed a double off the fence to score Craig, and the route was on. Elias and Mac followed up with basehits to give Sandbar a 4-0 lead after 1. In the 2nd, Payton and Mike Patterson started it off with a single and a double to put runners on 2nd and third, setting up Rafael to come through with a 2 run single and he did. In the 4th inning is where this game was put away. Ryan Lanzara hustled out a double, which inspired Payton to put up a "it is high...it is far...it is...GONE" 2 run HR on the board. Later in the inning, Scotty flexed his muscle with a mammoth shot way beyond the fence for a no doubter and another 2 runs on the board. Mike Henson pitched like he had a remote control and limited Channel 1 to 5 runs over 5 innings.
Sandbar now stands at 2-1 and plays this week @ 9 vs San Diego Softball Redbirds.

Sandbar makes good debut!
3/08/2009

Team Sandbar made a splash into the new season by beating the Burlingame Bulldogs with a score of 20-11. In a game that was tight through the 1st 3 innings, Sandbar put a 10 spot on the board in the bottom of the 4th inning. This upheaval of runs erased a 5 run deficit. The Bulldogs, veterans of the league, could not come back from the eruption of runs and were put away the next inning with 4 more runs. Elias Corona was the offensive star hitting for the cycle with 5 rbi's. Mike Henson also hit a homerun, with a 3 run blast to left that was gone as soon as it left the bat. Mac McCoy had 4 rbi's. Lauren Arfman, Jeff Farmer and Scotty Lee had 3 hits, while Rafael Salcido and a host of others had 2 hits. Defensively, there were several star plays. Craig Massey ranged deep to the left side of the infield with a superman dive to stop the ball and then throw out the runner to 1st. This play was preceded by a double play with a pitch from Craig to Ryan Lanzara who threw to Elias to complete the twin killer. Peyton Birdsell also laid out in the outfield robbing a Bulldog of extra bases. Mike Patterson also ran down some fly balls displaying his well known range.
Great effort in the 1st game of the season for Team Sandbar!
