9x22 Dance Lab returns to the Bryant Lake Bowl Theater

9 x 22 Dance Lab

The Bryant Lake Bowl's 9 foot x 22 foot performance stage has seen its share of extravagant acts, from improv and fringe fest shows, to comedy theater and inventive dance. Tonight, the stage's boundaries will be tested yet again with a new performance from a dance troupe so devoted to the modest dimensions of the BLB stage they named their company 9x22 Dance Lab. Since its conception in 2003, we've marveled at the work of over 160 choreographers and hundreds of dancers. Host, producer and curator, Laurie Van Wieren, brings together a night of contemporary and traditional West African dance with performers Deja Stowers, Jasmine Harris, Yonci Jameson, Kinyari Al-Ahad, Selima Al-Ahad, Yetunde Whittaker, Ashley Akpaka, and live music by Voice of Culture Drummers. The evening also presents an Erin Drummond performance, "Otherwake," with dancers Mandy Herrick, Nicole Curry, Stephanie Blackmon Woodbeck and Kristin Howe; and a short dance piece from visual and multi-media collaborative artists, Mary Esch, Krista Kelley Walsh and Josie Winship. After each piece, the dancers and choreographers will be on hand to discuss their work, moderated by Van Weiren. Don't miss this chance to explore unfettered dance work and offer your two cents.
